FOOTBALL: Daniel Algattas named new football coach at SBVC

Daniel Algattas is taking over the San Bernardino Valley College football program as the Wolverines enter into summer workouts. Algattas was previously the offensive coordinator for a record-setting Ventura College team.

FOOTBALL: Rancho Verde, Corona, Chino Hills, and Orange Vista reach Southwest County Semis

Rancho Verde, Corona, Chino Hills, and Orange Vista reached the semifinals of the 13th annual Southwest County Passing Tournament at Paloma Valley High School.

After a long, hot day that included a weather delay because of lightning, the tournament was called-off early following a scuffle between Corona and Hillcrest in the quarterfinals.

Orange Vista, playing with a team with no varsity experience, made a cinderella run to reach the semis after topping Ventura in the quarterfinals.

Rancho Verde outlasted Vista Murrieta in another great quarterfinal match-up.

MLB: Angels star Mike Trout “hitless” in 2nd Rehab Game with IE 66ers

Angels all-star Mike Trout slotted at DH for the Inland Empire 66ers.

Angels outfielder Mike Trout returned to the Inland Empire 66ers lineup as the designated hitter for the second consecutive game.

Trout struck out, was hit by a pitch, free base on catcher’s interference, and fielder’s choice.

Trout is slated to return to his rehab assignment with the Angels California League affiliate on Saturday night.

 

FOOTBALL: Wright, Berhe FUNdamental Camps coming to Colton High School

Former Colton High School football stars, and current NFL players, Shareece Wright and Nat Berhe will be hosting free football camps at their alma mater in July.

The Nat Berhe FUNdamental Camp is July 14, and the Shareece Wright FUNdamental Camp is slated for July 21

Here’s details from the camp registration website:

“FUNdamentals introduces children to football by teaching basic skills in a FUN and energetic environment. Certified clinicians use a series of drills to show passing, catching and running skills in a non-contact setting.

All skills and drills selected are based on USA Football’s Player Progression Development Model, ensuring children are learning in an age-appropriate manner and creating an ideal atmosphere for FUN!”

MLB: Angels All-Star Mike Trout begins Rehab with Inland Empire 66ers

Angels fans from across the Inland area piled into San Manuel Stadium to catch of glimpse of Los Angeles Angels All-Star Mike Trout.

The superstar centerfielder began his rehab assignment (thumb) with the Inland Empire 66ers with hopes of re-joining the Halos after the All-Star break.

Trout was the designated hitter for the 66ers in their Wednesday night game vs. the Stockton Ports and finished 0-for-3 including a groundout and a flyout.

BASEBALL: Angels star Mike Trout rehabbing with Inland Empire 66ers

Angels OF Mike Trout worked out with the Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday.

Angels super star outfielder Mike Trout is on the mend for a thumb injury he suffered in May, but is inching closer to a return to the Halos lineup.

Trout worked out with the Halos California League affiliate Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday and will play in several rehab games before returning to the Big League club after the All-Star break.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia has been on the record saying Trout will likely need 5-6 minor league rehab games before returning to the Angels.
