BASKETBALL: UC Riverside rips Cal Poly 74-51

The UC Riverside men’s basketball team picked up its first road win of the season with a 74-51 victory at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The Highlanders grabbed 48 rebounds and were led in scoring by Ajani Kennedy (15), Callum McRae (14) and Dragan Elkaz (14).

UCR (8-13, 2-3) plays at UC Irvine on Saturday.

BASKETBALL: UC Riverside holds off Hawaii 75-71

The UC Riverside men’s basketball team held off Hawaii 75-71 for its first Big West Conference win of the season. Freshman guard Dragan Elkaz netted a career-high 25 points, including 7 three-pointers, while Dikymbe Martin added 19 in the win.

The Highlanders (7-13, 1-2) travel to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.

BASKETBALL: UCR falls in Big West Conference opener 84-83

The UC Riverside men’s basketball team came up short in its Big West Conference opener, 84-83 against Cal State Northridge.

Terrell Gomez led all scorers with 32 points. Dikymbe Martin paced UCR (6-11) with 25 points.

The Highlanders return to Big West play on Saturday at UC Santa Barbara.

SOCCER: UC Riverside advances to Big West Finals

The UC Riverside men’s soccer team nipped Cal State Fullerton 3-2 in overtime in the Big West Tournament semifinals, thanks to a golden goal from Daniel Castaneda.

The Highlanders will host UC Davis on Saturday, November 10th for the Big West tournament title.

BASEBALL: Dylan Cavender added to UC Riverside Baseball Team

Check out some of the pictures from the press conference at UC Riverside to introduce Dylan Cavender to the baseball team. The Highlanders “adopted” Cavender as part of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.

According to a release from UCR: The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers, and to raise awareness through their “Adopt-A-Child,” “Safe on the Sidelines,” and “Guardian Angel” programs. They do this by pairing the afflicted child and their siblings with local high school and college sports teams, campus clubs, and arts programs in their community.

Cavender will share a locker with #8 Ian Nowak inside the UCR clubhouse.

Assistant coach Bryson LeBlanc was instrumental in helping connect the Highlanders baseball team with Cavender and the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
