BASKETBALL: Roosevelt wins CIF Division 1 State Championship

The Roosevelt Mustangs boys basketball team captured the CIF Division 1 State Championship with a 54-45  victory against James Logan of Union City. Be sure to watch/listen to the Inland_Sports Show on Saturday at 11am for extended coverage of the Mustangs state title.

SOCCER: Riverside wins All-Star Game 2-1

The Riverside County All-Stars defeated San Bernardino County 2-1 on Wednesday night at Arlington High School. Moreno Valley’s Luis Hernandez took home the Most Valuable Player honors.

FOOTBALL: Covington takes over Jurupa Valley Football

Rick Covington has been tabbed as the head football coach at Jurupa Valley. The official word coming from Jaguars Athletic Director Mark Gard in the following press release:

Jurupa Valley High School is happy to announce the hiring of Rick Covington as the Head Football Coach.  Upon Board approval, Coach Covington will continue building the Jaguar Football Program. Rick previously coached at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley and Norte Vista High School in Riverside.  While at Norte Vista, Coach Covington served in a variety of capacities including the role of Defensive Coordinator for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Rick also served as Assistant Head Coach from 2010 to 2015. 

Coach Covington was raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia where he played for Hall of Fame Coach Tally Johnson at Central Gwinnett High School.  He was a three-year varsity letterman and consensus All-County pick as an Offensive Lineman in 1984. Rick graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees.  

Coach Rick Covington currently lives in Riverside with his wife Johanna and his two children, Zoey and Wyatt.

FOOTBALL: Ron Gueringer named coach at Corona


After 8 seasons at San Gorgonio High School and a CIF Southern Section Division 7 title this year, Ron Gueringer will be leaving the Spartans to take the head coaching job at Corona High School.

Gueringer posted an overall record of 64-33 at San Gorgonio and won four straight San Andreas League titles. Gueringer, who was also the head coach at Corona Centennial prior to Matt Logan, will take over a Panthers program that finished 2-8 last season, 0-5 in the Big VIII League.

BASKETBALL: All-CIF Teams, Reedy Named Player of the Year

Rancho Verde’s Brandon Baker has been named the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA Coach of the Year.

The CIF Southern Section released its all-CIF teams on Monday. Guard Damien Reedy from the CIF-SS Division 1AA champion Rancho Verde earned player of the year honors with Brandon Baker being named the Coach of the Year in their respective division.

BASKETBALL: Roosevelt advances to CIF Division I State Championship

The Roosevelt Mustangs downed its Big VIII League rival Centennial for a fifth time this season, 68-65 to clinch the CIF Division I Southern California title at the Pyramid at Long Beach State University.

Roosevelt (25-8) will meet James Logan from Union City for the CIF Division I state championship on Friday March 24 at 8pm at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

BASKETBALL: Notre Dame falls to Rolling Hills Prep in CIF Division V SoCal Finals

The Notre Dame boys basketball team rallied late, but could not overcome a slow start in falling to Rolling Hills Prep 60-59 for the CIF Division V Southern California championship. You can watch the entire game on the Inland_Sports Show Channel on YouTube:
