FOOTBALL: Norte Vista stars sign with U. of Redlands

Solomon Iosefa and Hector Becerra sign their letters to play for the University of Redlands during a ceremony at Norte Vista High School.

The University of Redlands football team landed two, key players from Norte Vista High School that led the Braves to the CIF Southern Section Division 7 championship game.

Braves lineman Solomon Iosefa and defensive end/tight end Hector Becerra, each were All-CIF selections this past season, signed with the Bulldogs during a ceremony on Wednesday.

Iosefa and Becerra join a UofR team that finished 8 and 2 last season and won the SCIAC championship.

The Bulldogs kick off the season on September 2 at home against Trinity (Texas).

BASEBALL: Santiago edges Norco 3-1 in Big VIII action

The Santiago Sharks baseball team picked up a 3-1 victory against the Norco Cougars in Big VIII League play.

ATHLETICS: New 14-Team Conference highlights re-leaguing

A number of high Schools in the Inland Empire (Citrus Belt Area) will be on the move beginning in 2018. At a re-leaguing meeting at King High School in Riverside on Monday, a proposal was approved to create a NEW 14-team conference essentially combining the Inland Valley and Sunbelt Leagues, plus adding Notre Dame and Orange Vista.

The only other noticeable changes have AB Miller moving from the Citrus Belt League to the Mountain Valley League, Eisenhower going from the Citrus Belt to the San Andreas, Indian Springs from the San Andreas to the Mountain Valley, and Banning moves to the Desert Valley League.

The Riverside Poly baseball team joins us in-studio to preview the Riverside Classic vs. the King Wolves on Saturday 6pm at Cal Baptist University.

SOFTBALL: Riverside Poly rallies past Valley View 5-4

The Riverside Poly softball team completed a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning as Nahuaque Orona drove home Niki Calderon for the 5-4 walk-off win against Valley View.

Both teams entered the game 2-0 in the Inland Valley League and front-runners for the league championship.

The Poly Bears have won 12 straight games.

BASEBALL: Cal Baptist thumps Hawaii-Hilo 11-4

Cal Baptist University (28-15, 19-10) opened its final home series with an 11-4 victory against Hawaii-Hilo.  Ryan Williams led the way collecting four of the Lancers 16 hits in the game, while John Glenn knocked in a team-high three runs.

Andrew Bernstein (4-1) worked 7.1 innings and struck out five en route to his fourth victory of the season.
