The Big VIII girls golf tournament is underway … Inland_Sports Volleyball Correspondent and Senior Writer Derryl Trujillo has a recap:
The King Wolves held on for a 3-2 victory at Corona on Friday, after the initial meeting between the two schools on Tuesday was protested by the Wolves.
Friday’s game began with King leading 2-0 in the top of the second inning with a runner on third base; exactly the scenario when the protested play occurred on Tuesday. The protested play resulted from a ground ball up the first base line in which the Corona catcher tossed his glove at the ball; whether it was fair of foul prompted King to protest the game.
Corona put runners on the corners in the bottom of the 7th inning on Friday, but could not push across the tying run.
The Santiago Sharks powered past King 11-1 in Big VIII League play. Starting pitcher Shelby Macias whirled a complete game from the circle, surrendering just a single run to the Wolves.
Brittany Allen swatted two home runs in the game; including back-to-back jacks with Sierra Frazier in the fifth inning.
Mackenzie Meech provided King’s lone run on a solo homer.
