Murrieta Valley WR Marquis Spiker: Marines Recruiting Station Riverside Athlete of the Week

Murrieta Valley receiver Marquis Spiker is the all-time leader in touchdown catches in the state of California! Spiker broke the record in the Nighthawks 59-56 win against Santa Margarita in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Spiker caught four touchdowns in the game to go with 284 yards. Spiker now has 70 career touchdown catches, passing the old mark of 66 set by Earvin Johnson of Cathedral in 2000.

Vista Murrieta (0-2) slides to #8 after going winless in their first two games, but seriously, they played two really good teams in Colquitt County (Georgia) and Mission Viejo.

In our 4 more, Redlands East Valley is coming off a great 59-55 win at Etiwanda, Santiago dropped a tough one at home to Citrus Hill, and we’ve got both Notre Dame and Aquinas rounding-out the rankings!

FOOTBALL: Pre-Season “Great 8 & 4 More” Rankings

Using a very complicated, scientific, and mathematical formula; the Inland_Sports Show Super Computer was able to squirt out (as Geoff Gorham put it) these preseason “Great 8 & 4 More” power rankings based on a points system.

Centennial checks in at the top spot with 48 points; followed by Murrieta Valley, Heritage, Vista Murrieta and Roosevelt rounding out the top five spots. There were several ties including a log jam for the 8th spot in the Great 8.
