Let’s open up the volleyball notebook on this Friday morning before football.

Ambassador League does it again:

The Ambassador League for a second consecutive year has cemented itself as our area’s top small schools league with four teams advancing to Saturday’s quarterfinal round. All of them are entered in Division 6.

Aquinas ,who knocked off #1 Bishop Amat in a sweep, hosts Walnut tomorrow at 7pm.

Notre Dame ,who knocked out Grace Brethren in 4 sets, visits Paloma Valley tomorrow at 5pm.

Loma Linda Academy, who knocked out Beaumont in a sweep, visits Gabrielino at 7pm currently.

Ontario Christian ,who knocked out Brentwood in a sweep, visits Templeton tomorrow currently  at 7pm

The Arrowhead League is our only other league with multiple Elite 8 teams in Sherman Indian and Carnegie.

History being made:

The 2nd year of CIF-SS’ competitive equity format means that schools who haven’t had success recently in volleyball are getting a chance to succeed in postseason play:

Elite 8 participants Aquinas, Rancho Christian, Paloma Valley, Sherman Indian, and Orange Vista have all made it to this point for the first time in their history.

Road Warriors:

On Thursday it was Redlands Adventist making the lengthy trip to Lone Pine. Saturday it’s Orange Vista’s turn. It’s approximately 215-240 miles depending on which route you take.

End of the Season awards:

If your league has held its postseason meeting for all-league honors please email that list to socaltrekkie@gmail.com. Should you want it held till a certain date please include those requests. Also I will be compiling two all area teams. One will be public schools and the other private schools. Please send recommendations to the email address above.

FOOTBALL: Great 8 & 4 More Rankings after Week 1

It’s starting to get juicy around here with some great match-ups looming in the next couple of weeks in non-league … we’re looking at you #5 Murrieta Valley vs. #4 Cajon 🙂

Centennial is still #1 despite a 40-20 setback to IMG Academy at the Honor Bowl.

Vista Murrieta (0-2) slides to #8 after going winless in their first two games, but seriously, they played two really good teams in Colquitt County (Georgia) and Mission Viejo.

In our 4 more, Redlands East Valley is coming off a great 59-55 win at Etiwanda, Santiago dropped a tough one at home to Citrus Hill, and we’ve got both Notre Dame and Aquinas rounding-out the rankings!

The Inland_Sports super computer never lies.

FOOTBALL: Chargers RB Kenjon Barner with Moreno Valley Mavericks
